This year, Scottish Bhartiya Samaj (SBS) in association with the Marwari International Federation celebrated Gangaur with a spectacular Holi Get-Together! Celebrating the spirit of Gangaur with the festival of colours.
Amidst the beautiful landscapes of Scotland, the Indian community came together to celebrate Gangaur, one of Rajasthan’s most cherished festivals. A festival steeped in devotion and cultural grandeur, Gangaur is dedicated to Goddess Gauri, symbolising marital bliss, prosperity, and well-being. Women, draped in dazzling Rajasthani poshaks, adorned with intricate mehndi designs, and bejewelled in traditional ornaments, sing age-old folk songs and offer prayers with unshakable faith, just as generations before them have done in the golden sands of Rajasthan.
For the Rajasthani diaspora, Gangaur is not just a festival; it is a sacred bridge to their heritage, a heartfelt connection to their homeland, and a reminder that no matter where life takes them, their traditions remain a part of their soul. In Scotland, this festival becomes even more special-a nostalgic tribute to their roots, a celebration of identity, and a vibrant reaffirmation of culture.
As the Scottish winter gives way to the first whispers of spring, the air fills with festive joy. Holi-the festival of colours, laughter, and boundless joy—met the grace and devotion of Gangaur, creating an unforgettable celebration of unity and love.
The event was held on 16th March, 2025, at Woodside Hall, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom, 3 pm-7 pm.
This grand event promised an enchanting evening filled with cultural splendour and Rajasthani elegance. That lovely afternoon at woodside hall was mesmerised by the rhythmic beats of traditional folk dance performances that capture the essence of the desert land. Women and young girls dazzled in vibrant Bandhani, Leheriya, embroidered poshaks and traditional jewellery, adding a regal charm to the festivities. The one of biggest draw was the mouthwatering regional cuisine from refreshing Thandai to crispy starters and a lavish main course, enriched with colours, groove to electrifying DJ beats, and celebrated togetherness with friends and family.
As the colours of Holi blend with the soulful essence of Gangaur, this event becomes more than just a celebration-it becomes a testament to our enduring heritage, an expression of love for our culture, and a joyous moment to create lifelong memories.
