Ruth’s story began in extraordinary circumstances. Abandoned as a newborn, she was discovered by a passerby and brought to the Missionaries of Charity at the Mother Teresa Home, where the nuns cared for her and called her “Angel.”
Her life changed when Fr. Noel Harper, a newly ordained priest, encountered her at the home, named her Ruth, and formed a deep bond with her. Although his position as a priest prevented adoption, Annie Nazareth, a lay nun transferred from France to the Vijayawada diocese, eventually adopted Ruth in 1982 after receiving necessary approvals, giving her a home while Fr. Noel remained a devoted guardian.
Adulthood brought another difficult chapter when Ruth became a mother at 18 and entered a marriage marked by years of severe emotional and physical hardship. According to her account, she endured treatment as a domestic servant and separation from her children before ultimately choosing to walk away.
Supported by her father, Ruth moved to Hyderabad and began rebuilding her life, entering the corporate world as a receptionist and gradually working her way up to build financial independence on her own terms.
Her journey later extended into social service through the Care & Share Charitable Trust founded by her father in 2001. Following her mother’s passing in December 2023, Ruth assumed the role of chairperson of the charitable organisation in India to continue her family’s legacy of service.
Today, guided by four simple principles—forgive, pray, remain grateful, and “Love All, Serve All”—Ruth sees the Phoenix crown as a symbol of rising after adversity and rebuilding stronger.
