Dr. Anto Cordelia: Thank you. My journey in precision nutrition began with a deep interest in how genetic variations influence dietary responses. While the western countries have started to adopt nutritional genomics shifting from traditional to nutriomics research, the lower and middle income countries still follow the traditional approach. To move forward we need sound scientific evidence on nutrigenetics data for the diverse ethnic population. The sparsity in nutrigenetics data led to the establishment of N2RTU (Nutrigenetics and Nutrigenomics Research Translation Unit), where our primary goal is to enrich knowledge and capacity building in this emerging discipline and translate research into real-world applications. We focus on nutrigenetics research in SEA and Asian countries to identify and improve health outcomes to prevent chronic diseases.

Dr. Anto Cordelia: N2RTU plays a crucial role in advancing precision nutrition by integrating genomic data with lifestyle and environmental factors. Our research spans three key areas:

While the potential for precision nutrition is vast, we currently lack robust, large-scale, and population-specific data to implement it effectively. Much of the research remains siloed within academic journals, limiting its impact on public health and clinical practice.”
A major challenge is the underrepresentation of subpopulation groups—especially in ethnically diverse nations—leading to gaps in understanding how genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors interact to influence individual responses to nutrients. This is further exacerbated by a shortage of trained experts in the field, financial limitations, and a general lack of awareness among stakeholders.
At the Nutrigenetics and Nutrigenomics Research and Training Unit (N2RTU), we are committed to bridging this gap through translational research. Our aim is to move beyond basic discovery and ensure our findings are converted into real-world health interventions.
